IS MADE FREE A BUSINESS OR A NON-PROFIT?
We are an L3C low profit (for profit) social enterprise. Our primary focus is on our purpose over profits. We give 90% of our profits back to the crafters we serve through the funding of special projects.
HOW DO YOU FIND THE CRAFTERS THAT YOU WORK WITH?
We work with trusted partners in the countries we serve who already work extensively with the poorest of the poor. They are our eyes and ears and can qualify potential crafters for us. They share our vision, values, and commitment to those we serve.
HOW MUCH ARE THE CRAFTERS PAID?
Our crafters are paid at a level that meets or exceeds international fair trade standards and local wage requirements.
HOW DO I CARE FOR & PROTECT MY GEAR?
Spot clean with water. A fabric or leather water repellent / protector can be applied to canvas, fabric, or leather to help guard against the elements and staining.
WHAT IS THE COMPANIES COMMITMENT TO PRESERVING AND PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT?
From organic and recycled materials to eco-friendly leather, and environmentally responsible materials and processes, we do what we can without compromising the quality and function our customers expect. In addition, our life-time guarantee supports a limited, curated personal collection of fewer quality items and a reduction of what we discard. In fact, reducing our fashion waste may be the most impactful thing we can do to improve our planet. Second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 84% of unwanted clothes in the United States end up in landfills or are burned. Together, we can change lives while protecting our planet.
WHY DO YOU USE LEATHER?
Our primary mission is to do all it can to help end human trafficking, slavery, and extreme poverty through providing mainstream consumers with products that meet their price, quality and design expectations while supporting freedom jobs. Because leather is a fashion standard for most consumers and leading brands, to not provide leather options would significantly reduce the job opportunities for our crafters. In considering "vegan leather" as an option, we are continually working to find recycled options because most vegan leather is made from environmentally damaging petrochemicals with its own set of negative effects. We currently converted to 100% eco-friendly, vegetable tanned, biodegradable cow leather.
WHAT IS ECO-FRIENDLY LEATHER?
Eco-friendly leather is vegetable tanned leather without the use of chromium. It is also bio-degradable. In additional all our leather is a recycled byproduct from the meat industry which would otherwise be discarded.
